Come to Worship
The Bible tells us that in heaven, people from every nation, tribe, people group, and language will gather around the throne of God to praise him for what he has done for us. Together, we will worship the Lord, saying, “Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever!” (Revelation 7:9-12).
Though we will have to wait to fully experience what is described in that passage, every time we come to worship, it is a foretaste of heaven. It is a chance for us to gather in the presence of the Lord and to praise him with one voice (Romans 15:6). So if you are excited about heaven, you should love worship on Sunday mornings! As we come to worship each week, let me encourage you to…
- Come with an expectant heart. Consciously think about what the Lord has done for you and all that you know about his character, and then come expecting to meet with him in a way that will change you.
- Come on time. Make sure to arrive in time to get where you need to go (including getting kids checked in), get your coffee, talk to some people along the way, and then be in the room at the very beginning of the service so that you don’t miss any of it!
- Come to be with other worshipers. One of the reasons we gather for worship is that we encourage each other with our presence and our singing (Colossians 3:16). It is meant to be a corporate experience. That’s one reason we encourage everyone to sit as near to the front as possible. It’s good for us to be together. Your presence matters!
- Come to participate. Sing the songs. Pray along with the person voicing the prayer. Listen as the Bible is taught. It is a good thing to sing praises to our God (Psalm 147:1). Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness! Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! (Psalm 150:2, 6).
If you have any interest in helping lead in worship through singing, playing an instrument, or helping with production, send an email to [email protected] to let our Worship Arts team know about your interest.
20 Days of Prayer and Fasting
Monday begins our churchwide 20 Days of Prayer and Fasting. Anyone who currently receives our weekly e-newsletter will receive a daily email from me, which will include the prayer topic for each day. Those who do not receive our e-newsletter can sign up to receive the daily email by texting PRAY to 22828.
We will have an insert in the worship folder for the next three Sundays that includes all the prayer topics as well as the explanation about fasting. You can also find details on our social media accounts. I am excited to see what the Lord will do as we continue to ask him to build the house (Psalm 127:1)!
With the affection of Christ,
